Obituary in The State, Columbia, SC, 3 Jun 2007: Columbia - Lavada Koon Wessinger, 76, passed away Friday June 1, 2007. She was the daughter of the late Henry Lee Koon and Katie Hendrix Koon. She graduated from nursing school in 1951 as a Registered Nurse in the top of her class. Mrs. Wessinger lived at Woods Edge Apartments for many years where she had many wonderful friends in whom she considered family. She was a member of "The Ding-a-Lings" Hand Bell Choir at Woods Edge in which she enjoyed very much. Surviving are her children: Tamie Bradham (Gary) of Chapin, Tina Jenkins (Butch) of Sumner, GA, John Wessinger (Pam) of Batesburg and Errol Wessinger of West Columbia; six grandchildren. Brothers and sisters: Virginia Pugh (Allison) of Laurens, Kathleen Haltiwanger (Homer) of Lexington, Robert Koon (Thelma) of Saluda, Dr. David Koon (Brenda) of Columbia and Sandra Hawkins (Buck) of Batesburg. Memorials may be made to Woods Edge Apartments (The Ding-a-Lings), 109 Hillpine Rd., Columbia, SC 29212. A memorial Service honoring her life will be held at Woods Edge Apartments Activity Center on 109 Hillpine Rd. Columbia, Saturday June 9, 2007, at 4 p.m. A special thank-you to the many wonderful people at Woods Edge who cared and supported her through this most difficult time in her life.
